Eligibility Criteria for BHEL
Engineer Trainee
- Educational Qualification:
- Full-Time Bachelor of Degree in Engineering / Technology or a 5-year integrated Master’s degree or Dual Degree program in the relevant disciplines from a recognized Indian university.
- Relevant Disciplines:
- Mechanical: Includes Industrial, Production, Thermal, Power, Mechatronics, etc.
- Electrical: Includes Power, Energy, High Voltage, and Electrical Machines.
- Civil: Includes Structural, Construction Engineering.
- Electronics: Includes Instrumentation, Applied Electronics, and Control.
- Chemical: Includes Ceramics, Materials, and Process Technology.
- Metallurgy: Includes Materials, Extractive, and Foundry Technology.
- Age Limit:
- General: Maximum 27 years (29 years for those with postgraduate qualifications).
- Candidates must have been born on or after 01 February 1998.
Supervisor Trainee
Educational Qualification
65% cumulative score from an accredited university for a full-time engineering diploma in a relevant field (mechanical, electrical, civil, or electronic) (60 percent for SC/ST candidates).
Age Limit:
- As of February 1, 2025, a maximum of 27 years.
- Candidates must have been born on February 1, 1998, or later.
Exam Pattern for BHEL 2025
Exam Format for Trainee Engineers
Candidates’ general aptitude and technical proficiency will be evaluated on the exam for Engineer Trainee positions. The structure in detail is as follows:
Mode: Computer-Based Test (Online)
Time Frame: Two Hours
Score: 100 Overall
Distribution of Subjects and Marks:
Seventy marks for discipline-specific technical knowledge
Ten Points for Logical Thinking and Reasoning
Score: 10 for general knowledge
Ten points for English language proficiency
Essential Information:
Through understanding of the candidate’s engineering field (e.g., mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.) will be evaluated in the technical section.
Logical thinking and problem-solving skills will be evaluated in the reasoning section.
Current events and broad awareness will be covered by general knowledge.
Reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar will all be tested in English.

Exam Structure for Trainee Supervisors
The technical proficiency and general aptitude of diploma holders are the main criteria used in the Trainee Supervisors selection process. The following is the detailed structure:
Mode: Computer-Based Test (Online)
Time frame: two hours
Total Points: 100
Topics and Distribution of Marks:
70 points for discipline-specific technical knowledge
Logical Thinking and Reasoning: 10 Points
10 points for general knowledge
10 points for English language proficiency
Important Information:
Diploma-level expertise in mechanical, electrical, civil, or electronic fields is assessed in the technical section.
Ability and awareness are evaluated in the reasoning and GK sections.
Basic language skills will be the main focus of English.
Selection Process For BHEL
Engineer Trainee
- 75% of the weight goes to the computer-based examination (CBE).
- 25% of the weight goes to the personal interview.
The final choice is determined by the interview’s and CBE’s combined merit.
Supervisor Trainee
- Shortlisting in a 1:3 ratio for document verification is part of the Computer-Based Examination (CBE).
- Document Verification: Phase of qualification.
CBE scores are the only basis for final merit.

Service Bond
Candidates must sign a service bond for 3 years:
